Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat spans about 13 sq Km, was built in the early 12th century and took only 37 to build this astonishing complex and work of art. Built by the king Suryavarman II, he dedicated this temple to the hindu god Vishnu. It's design was to represent Mount Meru as this is believed to be the home of Hindu Devas (gods) . Not only is it mind blowing that this was built by hand in merely 37 years but the workers had to dig out a HUGE moat and use the dirt as foundation prior to building. I can only imagine the man power the king had at his disposal.

Sunrise.... Life is beautiful.

They spend millions of dollars on restoration of Angkor Wat but can't afford to buy a damn lawn mower for these poor folks? Cutting the grass with machetes is beyond ridiculous.

A few travel bugs loving life

I know I know, I'm a great photographer!

Travel bug in awe :>

We spent $40.00 each on tickets to Angkor Wat and the man in blue on the left says, "to take a picture you must pay $1.00". Jay say's "My ass I do!"... nice pic eh?!! :>

Travel bug blinded by sun...

All of these pillars and walls have inscriptions on them. The amount of work it must have been is mind blowing.

Hallways are seemingly endless, all of which are adorned with intricate carvings.

An example of the intricate carving that span each hallway

Outside of the Angkor Wat temple but still withing it's walls

An idea of just how huge this place is.

Bayon Temple - Angkor Temples

Bayon.... this place is my absolute favourite. When we visited it was dusk, we had the temple to ourselves, the jungle was very lively, and to add to the atmosphere, thunder and lightning was right above our heads. The energy this place had was crippling and demanded reverance. All you could do was sit, stare, think, and be puzzled. Words can't really justify but it really was a treat and a highlight.

The last of the sunset after visiting Bayon..... Pretty much the icing on an already epic Sundae.
